Studied at Bishop Cotton School, Simla.
Joined the Punjab Police Force at Amballa, Punjab, 1SSS. Transferred to Peshawar, 1889. Appointed C.B.M. Police, Kohat, 1890.
Served with Sir William Lockhart in both the Miranzai Expeditions, 1891 (medal and clasp). Served with Colonel Haughton, 36th Sikhs, during the attack on Samana posts, and subsequently with Sir W. Lockhart in the Tirah Field Force (medal and three clasps). Appointed College Ott'r. lvhyber, 1898, and re-translerred to Kohat, 1899, to complete negotiations in a new road through Kohat Pass with Adam KhelAfridis.
On special duty to raise Santana Rifles. Com mandant B.M. Police and Samana Rifles.
