He died during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in World World War World War II After service in various ships and shore stations, he was given command of the newly commissioned destroyer Barton (Doctor of Divinity-599) on 29 May 1942. Lieutenant Commander Fox went down with his ship when she was torpedoed and sunk in the naval Battle of Guadalcanal on 13 November 1942. See United States Ship Douglas H.
