I am a Quaker, since 1999, starting in St Petersburg Meeting, then at Pendle Hill, then at Portland Friends Meeting. But I am not a Christian, just a person of some spirit. The most significant positive persons in my life have been my brother Bob, my mother, Dorothy, Tina, Paula, Ken, Becky, and my daughters Cara and Molly. However, there are numerous others whom I wish to thank for your influences. You know who you are. Thank you.
I consider myself to be politically progressive, financially somewhat conservative. 'Somewhat' because I believe that money offers choice and opportunity to people, and so should be used for this purpose. Which brings me to the very certain conclusion that '-isms' (e.g. racism, sexism, classism) and many other societal mechanisms are ways in which the empowered keep and increase their power, ruthlessly. It's obvious, I think. We all live in varying states of fog, unaware of how much of ourselves is thus determined, including our earliest experiences, til this moment. To become clear is the greatest struggle, integral to saving one's soul.
Lord knows. I'm not equipped to respond to this.
