From 1969 to 1972 Douglas assisted New York photographers Garry Gross, Carl Fischer and William Helburn. From 1972 to 1973 Douglas worked for Delta Presse in Paris, France and Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. In 1974 he was a staff photographer for United Artists Records in Los Angeles, California, United States.
In 1976 Douglas began the series "Shooting Down" - images photographed from above that have a 3-D effect or "float"- and began painting on his photographs. Since 1976 he is a self-employed photographer, painter.
