Dr. Rasiah was born in 1949 in Nallur, Jaffna, Sri Lanka as the fourth child to Pandit S. Rasiah (Tamil Scholar and Lecturer) and Ponnammah from Nallur, Jaffna, Sri Lanka; brought up in a village environment with the emphasis of duty, discipline, education and caring.

Academic career involving in teaching and research in Sri Lanka, England, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia
Developed and delivered undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Construction materials, Concrete technology, Composite materials, Damage and Repair of Concrete Structures and Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures.
Pioneered concrete research in the field of (a) utilisation of waste materials in concrete: Recycled aggregate concrete; Expanded polystyrene aggregate concrete; Cement supplementary materials in concrete; (b) Special concretes - Lightweight concrete, High-strength concrete, Fibre-reinforced concrete and Pervious Concrete; (c) Durability of concrete - High-temperature, Sulphate attack; Acid attack and Corrosion; and (d) Fibre-reinforced Polymer Composites.
Supervised many post-graduate students graduated with M. Eng. and PhD degrees and numerous undergraduate students;
Accomplished researcher with over 150 technical publications in International Journals and Conference proceedings.

Born in a Hindu family and brought up with the emphasis of prayers, duty, traditions and believe; visited hundreds of temples in Sri Lanka, India (North and South), Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Bali), Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Oman, Europe, Myanmar, USA, Hawaii (USA), Canada, England, South Africa, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Accepting the teaching of Saints and Sadhus; Involved with Sai Baba movement; Edited Hindu and Spiritual journals; Respecting all other religious teachings and varying traditions; Love the humanity and vegetarianism.
An optimistic in approach; respects ethical behaviour; looking for happiness within; enjoy meeting people and expanding the associations; ready to help the needy; loves travelling.

Pandit S. Rasiah was a scholar in Tamil language and literature; Obtained the degree of Tamil Pandit from Madurai Tamil Sangam; Lectured at the Government Teachers Training Colleges at Addalaichennai, Kopay and Colombogam from 1950 to 1967; written a number of Tamil poems. Pandithamani S Kanapathipillai and Principal Myliddy S. Swaminathan were his dedicated teachers. Vidwan N. K. Velan is his favourite students
Born in 1922 in Nallur, Jaffna; daughter of businessman Somasundaram and Thangammah; studied at Ramanthan College, Jaffna; married to Pandit S. Rasiah in 1938; blessed with 11 children (2 daughters and 9 sons); lived as a dedicated wife and mother; died at the Westmead Hospital on 1st Aug. 2008.
