Dru Cunningham

Drew Cunningham was born in Hanford, California, USA. She is the daughter of John, who was an electrician and a farmer, and Helen (Smith) Paul.

Education

She studied at the Ohio State University in Lima and graduated from Bluffton College and received Bachelor of Science (Elementary Education) degree in 1966.

Career

In the 1970s, she worked in the Celina school system in Selina, Ohio and in the Bellefontaine school system in Bellefontaine, Ohio, as an elementary teacher. In 1992 she worked at the Bowling Green Christian Academy in Bowling Green, Ohio, as an elementary teacher.

Quotations: “So many of my ideas have come from incidents and activities that have happened with my own children or something that comes to me through the children that I teach. I’ve always loved poetry and have done a lot of rhyming even as a child. When some of my poetry was published in our church paper, I was pleased. I never thought of getting my work published professionally until after I taught school for a while, but I never stopped writing, although what I wrote was not being done with that objective in mind. My first professional break came when I got an article published in American Legion Magazine about an interesting war mural. One thing has led to another ever since."
