(English country squire Charles Warde seems to have everyt...)
English country squire Charles Warde seems to have everything a man could want — a beautiful wife, a ravishing estate and mountains of money, but his self-indulgence knows no bounds, something, the Victorian society around him cannot accept.

Duncan Sprott was born on December 2, 1952, in Ongar, Essex, England. He is a son of Hugh Sprott and Brenda (Grieves) Sprott.
Duncan attended the University of St Andrews, located in Scotland, and Heatherley School of Fine Art, London.
Early in his career, Duncan taught English, Greek and Drama for thirteen years. Since 1990, he has been acting as a full-time writer.
His first novel, "The Clopton Hercules" (1991), published in the United States as "The Rise of Mr. Warde" (1992), concerns a handsome and profligate aristocrat, derived from an actual Victorian era Englishman, who uses and abuses loved ones and acquaintances in the process of consuming his family fortune.
In 1995, Sprott published "Our Lady of the Potatoes", a story, inspired by a canvas of Francois Boucher. The painting, "Ruhendes Madchen" (Reclining Girl), is the image of King Louis Bourbon’s mistress as she lies provocatively on rumpled silk, gloriously exposed for her master. Marie-Louise Murphy (the girl in the painting), an Irish girl, brought by her parents to Paris after escaping famine-ridden Ireland, is an exceptionally beautiful fourteen-year-old model for Boucher, who is seen by an agent of the King’s court, and is sold at auction to become the mistress of King Louis XV at Versailles.
Duncan's other books include "The House of the Eagle" (2004), "Daughter of the Crocodile" (2006) and others.
Currently, he lives and works in Ireland.
