DZHAMBUL, DZHABAYEV was born on February 28, 1846 in Semirech’ye at the foot of Mount Dzhambul, for which he was named.

From early youth sang and accompanied himself on the dombra (Kaz national string instrument). Narrated fairy-tales and legends. Learned the art of improvisation from the bard Suyumbay.
His creative work was based mainly on the bards’ poetic competitions. At such competitions won against famed 19th-20th century bards - Kulmambet (1881), Sarbas, Dosmagambet and Shashubay. After the 1917 October Revol his songs won nation-wide fame.
His work was varied in form and genre. Responded to all major events of Soviet political, economics and cultural life: non-stop flights, founding of new schools, centenary' of Pushkin’s death, cattle-breeders’ congress, et cetera Lauded achievements of Revol and its leaders.
Dedicated a number of his songs to Stalin and other members of Soviet and Party leadership. During World War 2 created a number of patriotic songs which won wide popularity. His works have been translated into almost all languages of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics peoples and into many for languages.
