E.V. Day was born in 1967, in New York City, New York, United States.
E.V. Day received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampshire College in 1991. Then, she pursued her education at Yale School of Art where she studied sculpture. Day graduated in 1995 with a Master of Fine Arts degree.
E.V. Day’s first step to art was ‘Exploding Couture’ series the first installment of which titled ‘Bombshell’ was presented to the public at the Whitney Biennial of 2000. It provided her with first popularity and a solid place in the artistic community.
Since then, the sculptor has exhibited her artworks throughout the United States, including, in addition to the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, Salomon Contemporary Gallery, Meadows Museum, and the Hans Mayer Gallery in Berlin.
The selected commissions Day worked on include ‘Wheel of Optimism’ for NASA, ‘Bondage/Bandage’ from a bandage dress by Hervé Léger for the Whitney Museum, ‘Divas Ascending’ for New York City Opera from its wardrobe fund, and red rope nets ‘SNAP!’ for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
E.V. Day has served as an artist in residence in the San Antonio’s International arts program ArtPace (twice), and at the Foundation Claude Monet's Garden in Giverny, France.
Nowadays, the sculptor lives and works in New York City.
E.V. Day is an accomplished artist and sculptor whose imaginative artworks are recognized by the art world.
Being a 2016 recipient of the Rome Prize in Visual Arts from the American Academy in Rome, Italy, Day has also obtained many fellowships and grants, including Versailles Foundation Munn Artists Program, ArtPace International Artist-in-Residence, Dieu Donné Lab Grant, and Residency at The Atlantic Center for the Arts sponsored by the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
Day’s art is acquired in permanent collections of many notable art spaces and galleries, like the Museum of Modern Art, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, London’s Saatchi Collection, and Biedermann-Motech Collection in Germany among others.
In 2016, Day’s sculpture titled ‘Mummified Barbie’ was purchased at Christie's in New York City for $8,125.
E.V. Day characterizes her work as “futurist abstract paintings in three dimensions”.
E.V. Day is married to writer Ted Lee.
