He was ordained in 1881. After a curacy in Aberdare he was Rector of Castle Rising and then Vicar of All Souls" Leeds. From 1901 to 1904 he was Provost of Street Ninian"s Cathedral, Perth when he was ordained to the episcopate as the fifth Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway.
He died in post.
