He was a director of the South Sea Company from 1815 until his death. He was appointed Sheriff of Berkshire for 1825-1826 and Sheriff of Breconshire for 1831-1832. In 1829 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.
He owned several large estates, including Shinfield Park and Park Place in Berkshire.
