He became an acolyte at the age of nine at the Anraku-Ritsuin Temple on Mt. Hiei near Kyoto. The temple had been formerly a training institute where Priest Reiku preached exoteric Buddhism against esoteric.
Career
Echo endeavored to restore the doctrine of Reiku and the Tendai Sect to prosperity. Nariyori Tokugawa, the lord of Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture), built the Jozenin Temple in Kii and made him its chief priest.
