She was educated at Blantyre Girls’ School and the Henry Henderson Institute, she went in 1949 to the Women Teachers Training College a Blantyre where she qualified in 1951-1953.
From 1951 to 1953 she taught at her old school, Blantyre Girls’ School Resuming her studies with a scholarship
Australia she qualified in 1962 as a domestic science teacher from Emily McPherson College, Melbourne. She returned home to teach at Makata Primary School, Kapeni College and later at Blantyre Secondary School.
She was a delegate to conferences in Israel in 1964 and the Ivory Coast in 1969. She entered Parliament as a nominated member on June 15, 1971.
