Career
Born in Bridlington, Yorkshire, his formative golfing years were at Selby Golf Club where he represented Yorkshire. In 1971, Eddie began his Professional career as apprentice golf professional to Hedley Muscroft at Roundhay Golf Club, Leeds. 1974 gaining full Professional Golf Association qualifications.
1977 Eddie became Head Professional at Bedford & County Golf Club, and is regarded as one of the pioneers of the Professional Golfers" Association in establishing managerial leadership of a traditional member’s golf club
Recognised as an excellent teacher/instructor of the game, having tutored tournament players to beginners and every variety of golfer in between. In 1998, following the retirement of Alex Hay, Eddie became Managing Director of the prestigious Woburn Golf & Country Club.
He took the club through significant changes with enormous success, and the club hosted many major national professional and amateur events, gaining continued success as one of the world’s best known tournament venues. In 2008 Eddie started his own Golf Consultancy business, representing luxury and quality brands within the golf & leisure industry.
Eddie is Non Ex Director of Golf at Goodwood, (wwwgoodwoodcom) acting as a senior advisor to the executive team, and provides direction on strategic partnerships.
During his professional career he has mentored many young men and women who are developing their future careers within golf businesses. He has a personal campaign to improve the awareness of customer service standards and communication within golf clubs in the United Kingdom. He has published in areas including customer service, brand strengths, value conflicts, strategic choice, organisational structure, generational cultural team changes, and other strategy related areas.
He has also presented seminars, workshops, papers throughout the International sports & leisure, tourism, golf conferences and is widely recognised as an authority on emerging lifestyle trends.
He is also the official advisor/general counsel for the Golf Management programme at Bournemouth University. Eddie was the 87th Captain of the (Professional Golf Association) Professional Golfers" Association of Great Britain&I-2011/2013 one of the highest positions in the world of golf.
Following in the footsteps of many of the worlds renowned contributors to the game of golf. He was invited to officiate during the matches of the 2010 Ryder Cup (Celtic Manor) & 2012 Ryder Cup (Medinah Country Club) as an official Observer.
During December 2011 he led a Professional Golf Association delegation along with Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, that visited Afghanistan to promote golf to the troops and civilians operating in Afghanistan - also promoting the game, during the visit to the Afghani youths.
