Born in Câmara de Lobos, Madeira, Costa finished his football formation with local Chaplain to the Forces União, making his senior debuts in 2006 with the club and going on to play with it in three third division seasons.

In the 2009 summer he joined neighbouring Communicative Disorders Nacional, appearing in 14 games in first season in the top flight (nine as a substitute) and scoring two goals as the team finished in seventh position. His debut in the competition came on 12 September 2009, playing 25 minutes in a 0–2 away loss against Rio Avenue Football Club. In January 2012 Costa spent a week on trial at West Ham United, but nothing came of lieutenant Released by Nacional in the 2013 summer, he signed for Moreirense F.C. in the second level
