He also played in the National Football League for the Chicago Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Nebraska. He also practiced basketball and track.
He walked-on to the University of Nebraska.
He became a starter as a senior, at right tackle on both sides of the ball. In 2004, he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.

Husmann was selected by the Chicago Cardinals in the ninth round (99th overall) of the 1953 NFL Draft and began his career on the offensive line.
He spent the next two years out of football, while serving his military service in the Army.
Dallas Cowboys
He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960 NFL Expansion Draft and became the first starter at right defensive tackle in franchise history. He was waived on September 5, 1961. Houston Oilers

That year he played a key role in the team winning their second straight championship and was the runner-up to Billy Cannon in the Most Valuable Player voting for the title game.

In 1966, he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
