Engelman attended the Technical University in Vienna where he completed a master's degree in electrical and mechanical engineering in 1932.
Career
He has worked professionally as a consultant in photographic processing technology and in the design of photographic equipment, enlargers and control equipment for processors and silver- recovery systems.
In 1970 he patented a silver-recovery system. Engelman also made a 16mm documentary movie with photographs and film clips from 1938, narrated by Eli Wallach and distributed by Filmmakers Library in New York City.
