Served Maluka Expedition, B. E. Africa, 1898. Uganda Mutiny, 1898-1899 (medal with clasp). South Africa, 1900 (medal and 2 clasps).
Uganda, 1900 (medal with clasp). Commanded force against Suk and Turkana tribes, B. E. Africa, 1901 (despatches, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order). Commanded camel corps and mounted infantry in Somaliland, 1904.
Commanded 1st Battalion King’s African Rifles, 1905. Commanded Nandi Field Force, 1905 (despatches, brevet Lieutenant-Colonel, clasp). East Africa, 1906 (despatches). Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1902; The Manchester Regiment.
