Began with Hurlbut National Bank, Winsted, Connecticut, as messenger, 1875. Bookkeeper, later cashier, First National Bank, Winona, Minnesota, 1877-1895. 2d vice president 1895-1898, 1st vice-president, director, 1898-1916, president, since 1916, Merchants Loan & Trust Company, Chicago.

Director Pullman Trust & Savings Bank, Marshall Field & Company, Roseland State Savings Bank, C.&N.W. Railway. Also president Illinois Trust & Savings Bank, since 1919, and president Corn Exchange National Bank, Chicago.
