Served in Baltic War, 1854 (medal). Crimean War, 1854-1855. Present at siege of Sebastopol (medal with clasp, Turkish medal).
New Zealand War (medal), 1859-1860.
In command of expedition against Masnaah Forts (Persian Gulf), 1874 (thanked by Indian Government). In command of Naval Brigade attached to Larut Field Force, 1875-1876 (Perak medal).
In Egyptian War, 1882 (medal, bronze star, and 3rd class Order of Osmanie). While in command of Hastings Division. of Coast Guards, 1870, was presented by German Emperor with a silver telescope for assisting in saving lives of German emigrants wrecked off that coast.
Created Companion of the Bath on occasion of His (or Her) Majesty Jubilee, 1887. SS7; Justice of the Peace for Sussex.
