Belobaba was born in 1948 in Osnabruck, Germany. His family immigrated to Canada in 1949.
Belobaba received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo in 1970. Three years later he was given a Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University. Also in 1975, Edward received a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from Oxford University.
Belobaba began his career as a law clerk to Chief Justice Bora Laskin at Supreme Court of Canada in 1973 and held it for a year. Then in 1975, he was appointed an associate professor and associate dean at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
In 1984, Edward took a position of a partner at Gowlings, specializing in litigation and international business law. Also he served as a principal, specializing in opinions and appeals, at Law Office of Edward Belobaba from 2003 to 2005. Since 2005 Belobaba has been a judge at Superior Court of Justice in Ontario.
He was a co-founder and former editor-in-chief of the Supreme Court Law Review and has been involved with numerous publications.
