Background
He was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1816 and educated at Wadham College, Oxford and ordained in 1840.

Career
After a curacy in Billesley he became the incumbent at Wilmcote. In 1851 he became Provost of Street Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth, a post he held for twenty years. He died on 18 August 1877.
