Career
Jordan was born in Moriah, New New York He later moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, where he became an attorney. He served in local offices, including Portsmouth City Clerk and Lawrence County prosecuting attorney.
In 1848 Jordan was one of the partners who established Portsmouth"s Democratic Enquirer newspaper.
After leaving the Treasury Department Jordan continued to practice law in New York City. He died in Elizabeth, New Jersey and was buried at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio.
