He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 25th round of the 1968 MLB June Amateur Draft from Cranston High School West (in Cranston, Rhode Island). He was the first athlete to be signed by a professional sports organization from the Cranston West High School. He played four consecutive seasons in the Detroit Tigers baseball organization.
