Studied at Stonyhurst College. Viceroy’s gold medal for best picture painted in India, 1895, 1898, and 1901.
Entered 3rd Dragoon Guards from Sandhurst, 1887. Transferred to Indian Staff' Corps, 1891. Passed in Russian, 1890.
Served in Indian Frontier Campaign of 1897. South African War, 1899. Large pictures hung in Royal Academy, 1899, 1900, 1901, 1904, and 1909.
Decorated for conspicuous gallantry at Colenso on 20 February 1900, in swimming river Tugela under heavy tire from Boers, whilst covering with a party of Thomeycroft’s Mounted Infantry the attack of General Hart’s Brigade. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900; Indian Army; Squadron Commander, 12th Cavalry.
