Ordained in 1912, his first post was as Chaplain of Jesus College, Cambridge a period interrupted by World War I service as a Chaplain to the Forces (during which time he was Mentioned in Despatches). Later he was Vice-Principal of Westcott House, Cambridge then Dean of Pembroke College, Cambridge until his ordination to the episcopate as the Bishop of Ely. He died on 12 August 1956.
