Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1870.

Career

Private Company A, 1st West Virginia Cavalry, February 13-July 8, 1865. Appointed cadet at West Point, from 2d District West Virginia, October 17, 1865. Second lieutenant 8th Cavalry, June 15, 1870.

First lieutenant, October 3, 1876. Captain, July 5, 1886. Colonel 7th United States Vol.

Infantry, May 24, 1898. Honorary mustered out February 28, 1899, major 7th Cavalry, July 1, 1899. Colonel 40th United States Vol.

Infantry, August 17, 1899. Honorary mustered out June 24, 1901. Transferred to 10th Cavalry, October 2, 1902.

Lieutenant colonel 9th Cavalry, January 16, 1903. Colonel 14th cavalry, June 22, 1905. Brigadier general and retired, November 15, 1908, after more than 43 years’ service.
