Commissioned Second lieutenant United States Army, 1963, advanced through grades to colonel, 1985. Company Commander, executive officer B Company 13th Engineer Battalion, Camp Casey, Republic of Korea, 1964-1965. Engineer battalion advisor 6th ARVN Engineer Group, QuiNhon and DaNang, Vietnam, 1967-1968.

Instructor, then assistant professor department mechanics United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, 1969-1972, group director department mechanics, 1976-1988, deputy head department mechanics, 1988, associate dean, 1989-1993.
