Studied at Merchant Taylors’ School. St. Thomas’s Hospital.
Served as Assistant Surgeon 34th Regiment in Crimea, 1854-1856. Present in trenches at assaults on Quarries and Redan, Sebastopol (despatches, medal and clasp, Turkish decoration). Served with 12th Royal Lancers in India, 1856-1860.
Present at affair at Jhejhun, and Battle of Banda, 1858 (medal and clasp). Retired from army 1862. Trustee Sir Joseph Whitworth Institute, Darley. V. D.; Surgeon to the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth; Consulting Surgeon, Lady Whitworth Hospital, Darley.
Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
