After serving in junior positions on other papers, joined the Argus as reporter, 1881. Visited United States and Mexico as special correspondent for The Argus on Irrigation investigation, 1885. Returning, was appointed Chief Reporter.
Accompanied Mr. Deakin as special correspondent to first Imperial Conference, 1887. Represented The Argus at Queen Victoria Jubilee Celebrations in London, 1897. Delegate to first Imperial Mass Conference, 1909.
One of six delegates selected for honorary Doctor of Laws degree at Glasgow. Editor, The Argus, Melbourne.
Spouse 1886, Maud Mary, 2nddaughter of Henry Jackson, Bendigo, Victoria, formerly of Manchester, England.
