Edwin Truman Coman was born on 18th May 1903, in Colfax, Washington, United States.
Coman Jr. was the director of the Claremont College Library, and an assistant professor of business history at Stanford University. Later on, he would become the first university librarian at the University of California which is a position he would hold for fourteen years. He resigned from this job in 1965 and moved to San Diego and became a consultant to the Fine Arts Society Library, and to the Ruben E. Fleet Theater and Space Center.
He wrote four books on business and Libary science.
Being active in professional organizations he served as president of the California Library Association and on the executive board of the American Library Association.
