Career

Commissioned Second lieutenant Corps of Engineers, United States Army, 1909, and advanced through grades to brigadier general, 1941. Served successively at Detroit, Canal Zone, Rock Island, Illinois, Pittsburgh and Washington Barracks, as Second lieutenant, 1909-1912. At Island of Guam, Marianas Islands, Philippines, as First lieutenant, 1912-1915.

At Detroit and as instructor United States Military Academy and O.T.C. as captain, 1915-1917. Lieutenant colonel, command 20th Engineers, in charge forestry section of Division of Construction and Forestry, France, with American Expeditionary Forces, 1918. Colonel in Office of Chief of Engineers, Washington, District of Columbia, 1918-1921.

As major at Duluth, Minnesota and St. Paul, Minnesota, in charge engineer districts, 1921-1924. Commanded 13th Regiment Engineers, Fort Humphreys, Virginia, 1926-1928. Member General Staff Personnel Division, War Department General Staff, 1929-1933.

District engineer, Galveston, 1933-1937, Buffalo, 1937-1938. As colonel Ohio River Division, 1938-1941. As brigadier general commissioned Engineer Replacement Training Center and Post, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, after May 1, 1941.
