Neville, Edwin Lowe was born on November 16, 1884 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Son of Richard and Agnes (Lowe) Neville.

Bachelor of Arts, University of Michigan, 1907.

Career

Began as student interpreter, in Japan, August 1907. Consul at Antung, China, 1913-1914, Taihoku, Formosa, 1914-1916, Nagaaki, Japan, 1916-1920. Assigned to Division Far Eastern Affairs, Department of State, 1920.

With Conference on Limitation of Armament, 1921. Delegate to International Narcotics Conference, Geneva, 1924. Secretary of Embassy, charge d’affaires, Tokyo, 1925.

Appointed consul general, Tokyo, 1925. Counselor of Embassy, Tokyo, 1928, charge d’affaires, 1928-1929, and at different times during 1930, 31, 32, 34, 35. Minister to Siam, 1937-1940.

Retired. Special visiting lecturer, University of Michigan, 1941.
