Achievements

• He won gold medal on K4 1000 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City (with Steinar Amundsen, Tore Berger and January Johansen), and earned a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics in Munich on the same distance. Søby also won three medals at the International Coach Federation Canoe Sprint World Championships with a gold (K-4 10000 m: 1970) and two silvers (K-2 10000 m: 1966, 1971).
