Eigitsu Priest was born in 970.
Eigitsu Priest was born in 970.
He studied the Tendai sect doctrine in a temple on Mt. Hiei.
In his late years, he proceeded to Kyushu and nothing is known about him since. When Emperor En-yu fell ill, so the story goes, Eijitsu was sent to pray for his recovery in the Palace. On his way to the Palace, Eijitsu saw a sick man prostrate on the roadside. He descended from his carriage and went to the man to ease his pain. An Imperial messenger reprimanded the priest for the delay. He answered that the emperor could ask for the service of any great physician but the poor man could not and refused to pray for the emperor.
