He worked as a newspaper and magazine reporter when young. He became a disciple of Onitaro Oka, playwright and wrote dramatic criticism under the name of Entaro.
He joined Yoho Ii's Shimpa Company (Meijiza Theater) as a playwright (1912), and later worked for the Shochiku Theater Company. He wrote many plays which revived the waning popularity of the Shimpa drama in the Taisho and Showa eras.
