Eiku was born in 1179.

Career

After studying under Ryo-nin the doc-trines of the Jodo and Tendai sects, he resided in the Saito-Kurodani Temple on Mt. Hiei near Kyo-to, single-mindedly invoking the name of Amidha Buddha and reciting sutras.
