Eiraku Hozen was born in 1793, Japan.
In 1827, Nariyuki Tokugawa, the Lord of Kn Province (Wakayama Prefecture) granted him a silver seal with two characters, «ei raku» (everlasting bliss), hence his name. In his late years, he built a kiln in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, and stamped his works with the seal. A very versatile artisan, he adopted features of many kinds of ceramics of all ages.
He was the son-in-law of Ryozen, a distinguished ceramist.
