In 1713, tempted by Kochikuin Okuyama, the Shogun’s attending physician, she saw a play performed at Yamamuraza theater in Edo. She met in secret with actor Shingoro Ikushima by means of a secret passage. The clandestine meeting came to the notice of the Shogunate police in 1714. After investigations by the town police of Edo, Shingoro and two other actors, Hanshiro Iwai and Seigoro Nakamura, were imprisoned and Yamamuraza was closed temporarily. Ejima was exiled to the Shinano (Nagano Prefecture), Physician Okuyama to Izu (Shizuoka Prefecture) and Actor Shmgoro to Hachijo Island. The incident caused a sensation in Edo.
