Second Abbot of the Eiheiji Temple (Fukui Prefecture), one of the head temples of the Soto Sect. After he was initiated into the sect as a page to Enno Yokogawa, he studied for several years under Dogen. Be-came head of the Eiheiji Temple in 1254.
