Ekido 奕 堂

Background

Ekido was born in Nagoya about 1010.

Education

He became a priest at the age of 13 and studied under Gyorin of the Sho-oji Temple of the Soto Sect.

Career

He made a pilgrimage of Echigo, Mino and Osaka bet ore he became chief priest at such famous temples as the Ryukaiin, and Tentokuin. While on a preaching tour, he died in Uzen Province (Yamagata Prefecture).

Achievements

• He became famous for successfully bring about an amicable settlement to a dispute between the Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture and Sojiji Temple in Yokohama, the two main temples of the Soto Sect, in 1868.
