Envisaged plan to educate and convert Indians after having privately educated Samson Occoman (a Mohegan Indian), 1743.
Conducted Moor’s Charity School, 1754-1768 which had 127 Indians by 1765, school closed as result of governmental disapproval and poor results among graduates. Obtained charter for Dartmouth College from Governor John Wentworth of New Hampshire (U.S.), 1769, started school with funds raised in England, served as president Dartmouth College and Moor’s Charity School, Hanover, New Hampshire (U.S.), 1770-1779.
Published several sermons and “Narrative of the Indian School at Lebanon,” 1762-1775.
