Elena Poniatomka

Background

Poniatomka, Elena was born on May 19, 1933 in Paris, France. Lineal descended of the last king of Poland. Father a Frenchman of Polish descent, mother a Mexican scientist and member of the National College.

Education

Primary studies in Mexico. Secondary studies in Mexico City and in the Sacred Heart Convent, Raven Hill, United States. Fellow of the Mexican Center of Writers, 1957.

Professor of Literature and Journalism, Cairo Institute and National Youth Institute.

Career

Journalist; essayist. Author; poet; contributor to Excélsior, El Día, Novedades, Siempre, Plural, Mañana, Artes de México, Los Universitarios, La Palabra, El Hombre, Estaciones, Universidad de México, Revista de Literatura Mexicana, and “La Cultura en México.”. Refused the Villaurrutia prize in 1970.
