Performed 2 notable services in field of foreign affairs by helping prepare Preliminary Report on the Treaty of Reciprocity with Great Britain To Regulate the Trade between the United States and the Provinces of British North America, 1866, also in writing report which aided in drawing up fisheries treaty between United States and Great Britain, 1867.
Married Eloise Lloyd Strong, September 4, 1834, 7 children.
