Master of Arts, Rhode Island College (now Brown U.), 1795, honorary Doctor of Laws, 1828. Honorary Doctor of Divinity, College of New Jersey (now Princeton), 1805.

Career

Ordained, installed pastor 1st Presbyterian Church, Albany, New York, 1798. Became trustee Union College, Schenectady, New York, 1800, president (taking office at crucial period and financially strengthening college), 1804-1866. President American Association for Advancement Education, 1850.

Temperance advocate.
