She studied English Letters at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and then at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (Commodity Credit Corporation) in Mexico City.

She graduated from the Commodity Credit Corporation in 2008 with the short film Roma, which won the Garcia Bross prize in the Morelia Film Festival that same year. She is the first Mexican female winner of the Golden Palm for a short fiction feature film in the 2007 Cannes Film Festival titled "Ver Llover". "Ver Llover," was her third year school project filmed in Yautepec, Morelos, Mexico which also won first prize at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia in 2006 among other awards.
