In the course of the litigation the United States Patent Office was accused of corruption, but the charge was not upheld. In 1893 the Supreme Court finally ruled in favor of Bell. His patent had been issued Mar. 7, 1876.
In 1867 he patented his self-adjusting telegraph relay
