Ellen graduated from Ambassador College with her B.A. in 1971.
Ellen was a professional chef for 14 years; her mysteries include culinary elements. Hart began the Jane Lawless series in 1989, it is an early post-Stonewall example of the mystery genre in lesbian literature. Hart has also taught introductory classes for mystery writers at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis for many years.
