Ellen Salwen received her Master of Fine Arts from Lone Mountain College (now University of San Francisco Lone Mountain Campus) (1978), studied at Apeiron Photographic Workshops, Millerton, New York (1974), and received her Bachelor of Science in Art Education from New York University, New York City, in 1970.
Ellen Salwen has been an instructor of photography at Chabot College, University of California Extension, Berkeley, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Lone Mountain College, San Francisco, and Maine Photographic Workshops, Rockport. She worked as a coordinator of art applicants for the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, New York City.
