Designed for Key Stages 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum and published jointly by BBC and Longman, "Etoiles" offers a range of multimedia resources which aim to encourage learning by capturing the interest of the students. It provides a systematic series of interest-led activities for pupils to enjoy while they learn. At each of five levels, the course comprises a student's book, teacher's book, simulation material, a resource file (including copymasters, progress records and flashcards), cassettes and a BBC School Television series. This teacher's file offers suggestions for teaching and IT applications, National Curriculum charts, cassette transcripts and cross-references to the BBC TV series. "Etoiles" avoids hypothetical activities - like ordering food students never eat - and instead opts for activities which learners can relate to here and now. It makes extensive use of pair, group and teacher-student work involving the conveying of genuine meaning.

This book is about Joe Murdock, an Indian on the San Pedro Reservation. He has just returned from Vietnam and is a Sergeant. He does not like the way the reservation is run. He believes they are oppressed, the owner of the single store on the Reservation, Mr. Linton overcharges them, and the Council doesn't care. He tries to set up a business with a store in a nearby town. Along the way, he is thrown in jail, tries to kill the Agent, the white man in charge of the reservation, but is stopped, begins to hate the Indian culture, helps train actors for a movie about Indians, and looks to the spirit of Cochise, a great leader, for help. Read the Spirit of Cochise by Elliot Arnold to find out if he is successful. This was an okay book. It had a strong, albeit sometimes convoluted plot, believable characters, and some good action. The plot had many surprising twists and turns

Career
Among his books, Elliott Arnold is probably best known for his novel Blood Brother that was adapted as the acclaimed 1950 motion picture Broken Arrow and a 1956 TV series of the same name. His 1949 biography of Sigmund Romberg was made into the 1954 musical film, Deep in My Heart. Elliott Arnold died in New York City in 1980 at the age of sixty-seven.
